Philippians 2:5-8

In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature[a] God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death— even death on a cross!

As Seventh-day Adventists, we believe that this passage speaks to the very heart of the gospel message. It reminds us that Jesus, despite being fully God, willingly laid aside His divine privileges and took on the form of a servant. He humbled Himself, becoming obedient even to the point of death on a cross, all for the sake of saving humanity.

This passage challenges us to have the same mindset as Christ Jesus in our relationships with one another. It calls us to lay aside our own desires and agendas, and to humbly serve those around us. It reminds us that true greatness is not found in power, wealth, or status, but in our willingness to serve and care for others.

In our world today, it is easy to get caught up in the pursuit of success and achievement. We may be tempted to use our positions of power and influence to further our own agendas, rather than serving those around us. However, the example of Christ reminds us that true greatness is found in our willingness to serve and care for others, even at great personal cost.

As we seek to follow in the footsteps of Jesus, may we have the same mindset as Him. May we be willing to humble ourselves, serving and caring for those around us with the love and compassion of Christ. And may we always remember the sacrifice that Jesus made on the cross, as we seek to live lives that reflect His character and love.
