Like newborn babies, you must crave pure spiritual milk so that you will grow into a full experience of salvation. Cry out for this nourishment, now that you have had a taste of the Lord’s kindness.

It is often said that hunger is the best sauce, and it is certainly true when it comes to our spiritual life. In 1 Peter 2:2-3, the apostle Peter challenges us to hunger and thirst for righteousness, encouraging us to find satisfaction in all that is good and holy. As Seventh-day Adventists, we can view this passage as a call to pursue the righteousness of Christ, and to strive to live a life that is pleasing to God.

When we hunger and thirst for righteousness, we are seeking out a closer relationship with God, and a deeper understanding of what it means to be holy. We are recognizing the need to be purified and transformed by the power of the Holy Spirit. We are asking God to help us to see the world through His eyes, to see people as He sees them, and to be able to love as He loves.

At the same time, when we hunger and thirst for righteousness, we are also setting ourselves up for blessing and reward. We are making ourselves available to receive the fullness of God’s grace and mercy. We are recognizing that all of our actions, words, and thoughts have a purpose, and that by seeking righteousness, we are opening ourselves up to the blessings that God wants to bestow upon us.

Ultimately, when we hunger and thirst for righteousness, we are engaging in a process that will bring us closer to God. We are allowing ourselves to be shaped and molded by the power of His Spirit, so that our lives can become reflections of His goodness and grace. We are taking steps towards holiness and allowing God to use us to bring His kingdom to earth.

Let us take Peter’s words to heart and embrace the challenge to hunger and thirst for righteousness. Let us seek to grow in holiness, and to live lives that are pleasing to God. Let us open ourselves up to the blessings that come from pursuing righteousness, and may the peace, joy, and love of God be our constant companions.
