1 Peter 1:18-19

For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your ancestors, but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect.

Peter's words remind us that our salvation is not something we can earn or buy with our own efforts or possessions. Rather, it is a gift from God that was made possible through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ. As we reflect on the significance of Christ's sacrifice, we are reminded of the depth of God's love for us.

The phrase "a lamb without blemish or defect" also has special meaning for Seventh-day Adventists. We understand this to be a reference to the sacrificial system in the Old Testament, where lambs without blemish were offered as sacrifices for the forgiveness of sin. This system pointed forward to the ultimate sacrifice of Jesus Christ, who was the perfect Lamb of God.

As we contemplate the significance of Christ's sacrifice for us, we are also challenged to live in a way that honors the price that was paid for our redemption. We are called to "live as God's obedient children" (1 Peter 1:14), following in the footsteps of Christ who lived a life of perfect obedience to the Father.

May we always remember the precious price that was paid for our redemption and strive to live in a way that reflects the love of our Savior.
